MEDITATION

MEDITATION IS OBEDIENT REFLECTION ON YHVH’S WORD.

“Study this Book of the Law continually. Meditate on it day and night so you may be sure to obey all that is written in it. Only then will you succeed.” (Joshua 1:8) Many people think that prosperity and success come from having power, influential personal contacts, and a relentless desire to get ahead. But the strategy for gaining prosperity that YHVH taught Joshua goes against such criteria. He said that to succeed, Joshua must:

(1) be strong and courageous because the task ahead would not be easy,
(2) obey YHVH’s Law, and
(3) constantly read and study the Book of the Law -- YHVH’s Word.

To be successful, follow YHVH’s Words to Joshua. You may not succeed by the world’s standards, but you will be a success in YHVH’s eyes -- and His opinion lasts forever.

A BELIEVER’S MEDITATION IS PERSISTENT REFLECTION ON YHVH’S WORD.

“They delight in doing everything Adonai wants; day and night they think about His Law.” (Psalm 1:2) You can learn how to follow YHVH by meditating on His Word. Meditating means spending time reading and thinking about what you have read. It means asking yourself how you should change so you are living as YHVH wants. Knowing and meditating on YHVH’s Word are the first steps toward applying it to your everyday life. If you want to follow YHVH more closely, you must know what He says.

A BELIEVER’S MEDITATION AND PRAYER WERE EXEMPLIFIED BY YESHUA.

“Yeshua often withdrew to the wilderness for prayer.” (Luke 5:16) People were flocking to hear Yeshua preach and to have their diseases healed, but Yeshua made sure He often withdrew to quiet, solitary places to pray. It was a habit. Many things clamour for our attention, and we often run ourselves ragged attending to them. Like Yeshua however, we should take time to withdraw to a quiet and deserted place to pray. Strength comes from YHVH, and we can be strengthened only by spending time with Him.

A BELIEVER’S MEDITATION IS CAREFUL REFLECTION ON YHVH’S WORD.

“Think about what I am saying. Adonai will give you understanding in all these things.” (2 Timothy 2:7) Paul told Timothy to reflect on his words, and YHVH would give him insight. YHVH speaks through the Bible, His Word, but we need to be open and receptive to Him. As you read the Bible, ask YHVH to show you His timeless truths and the application to your life. Then consider what you have read by thinking it through and meditating on it. YHVH will give you understanding.

TO WHOM SHOULD MY MEDITATION BE DIRECTED?

Psalm 63:6: “I lie awake thinking of you, meditating on you through the night.” --- My moments of meditation are about YHVH and to YHVH.

HOW DO I MEDITATE? WHAT IS INVOLVED IN MEDITATION?

Psalm 62:1, 5: “I wait quietly before YHVH, for my salvation comes from Him… I wait quietly before YHVH, for my hope is in Him. --- Meditation is waiting quietly and patiently before YHVH, putting my hope in Him.
Psalm 1:2: “They delight in doing everything Adonai wants; day and night they think about His Law.” --- Meditation is thinking about YHVH’s Word and what YHVH tells us through His Word.
Psalm 16:7: “I will bless Adonai Who guides me; even at night my heart instructs me.” --- Meditation is a time of seeking YHVH’s guidance and instruction.
Psalm 143:5: “I remember the days of old. I ponder all Your great works. I think about what You have done.” --- Meditation is a time of reflection on YHVH’s past blessings.

WHAT SHOULD I THINK ABOUT WHEN I MEDITATE?

Psalm 48:9: “O YHVH, we meditate on Your unfailing Love as we worship in Your Temple.” --- I should think about YHVH’s unfailing Love.
Psalm 77:11-12: “I recall all You have done, O Adonai; I remember Your wonderful deeds of long ago. They are constantly in my thoughts. I cannot stop thinking about them.” --- I should think about all YHVH has done for me.
Psalm 145:5: “I will meditate on Your Majestic, Glorious Splendour and Your wonderful miracles.” --- I should think about YHVH’s Majestic, Glorious Splendour.
Romans 8:5: “Those who are dominated by the sinful nature think about sinful things, but those who are controlled by the Holy Spirit think about things that please the Spirit.” --- I should think about the Holy Spirit and what pleases Him.
Philippians 4:8: “Now, dear friends, let me say one more thing as I close this letter. Fix your thoughts on what is true and honourable and right. Think about things that are pure and lovely and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.” --- I should think about things that are true, honourable, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent, and worthy of praise.
Psalm 119:97-100: “Oh, how I love Your Law! I think about it all day long.” --- I should think about YHVH’s Word.

Thought for Today: Shabbat August 16

Remember, there is only one way to teach about YHVH, and that is honestly, factually, and unembellished. YHVH is not a religion, YHVH is the ultimate Reality, the Creator, the Source of everything and He should be treated that way. When you talk to family, friends and your children about YHVH, you are not talking religion, you are talking reality, life, and truth. YHVH is our Elohiym, and He created us with a purpose and pays attention to our every need and situation. He depends on us to fulfil that purpose we were created for to enable Him to fulfil His plan. YHVH and us are not strangers to each other. He is our Father, our Creator, our Mentor, our Teacher, our Inspiration, and our purpose. That is how you present YHVH. YHVH created everything and we have to be grateful to Him and we have to ask Him what can we do for Him. What did He create us for? Why did He give us intelligence? Why did He give us emotions? Why did He create us with love? What must we do with that it? What is our purpose? If I use His blessings the way it is intended, it will all be great and successful. But if I am ignoring it and just experimenting, then I am godless! Make this Shabbat a Holy day and shine His Light through your actions!

Erev Shabbat Shalom! Let's not forget why we do this, brethren!

For this reason He is the mediator of a new covenant, so that, since a death has taken place for the redemption of the transgressions that were committed under the first covenant, those who have been called may receive the promise of the eternal inheritance.
(Heb 9:15)

And you shall not bring an abominable thing into your house and become devoted to destruction like it. You shall utterly detest and abhor it, for it is devoted to destruction.
Deuteronomy 7:26 ESV

The abominable character of idols is contagious. Knowingly accepting them into your house will make you abominable in God’s eyes also.
