In this week's Original Torah Pearls, Shoftim (Deuteronomy 16:18-21:9), we examine the weirdest thing in the Bible, discuss whether we always need two or three witnesses, and I share the origin of the Hebrew word for “grace". --> https://www.nehemiaswall.com/torah-pearls-shoftim
No judge may accept payment, favor or honor from any party to a lawsuit or trial, past, present or future.
#deuteronomy 16:18-20 #shoftim #justice
Even the appearance of favoritism in justice is discouraged in #torah. Nobody is above God's Law, and the ends never justify unrighteous means. "Justice, and only justice, you shall follow." And Judges may not consider the consequences of a just verdict. Men, women, children, slaves, citizens, and foreigners all have equal standing in a court that is governed by God's Law. There is one torah for king, commoner, native-born, grafted in, rich, poor, and foreigner.
Rosh Chodesh Sameach! Have a joyful New Moon day!
Today is the beginning of the 6th Hebrew month of the year. We begin our 40 days of Selicoth prayers and fasting in anticipation of Yom Teruah, the coming of our King, the days of Judgement and atonement, and finally the festival of Sukkoth!
Don't be like the five virgins who waited until the last moment to put oil in their lamps! Get right with your Maker and do this in advance before He comes!
Please read this special bulletin. It contains life-changing information within concerning an upcoming community baptism event: https://firstfruits.cc/blog/20....25/08/25/special-bul
You shall appoint judges and officers… You shall not pervert justice... Righteousness, and only righteousness, you shall follow...

(The same Hebrew word is used for justice and righteousness. They are synonymous concepts in the Bible.)
Whether in church or state, the people usually get the leadership they deserve. According to #torah, the primary responsibility for ensuring justice lies with the people, not the government, and men who have been blessed with wisdom and insight have a responsibility to use their gifts for the community. If they misbehave, they are also to be removed by the people.
That government is best which governs according to all of God's commandments. God's Law is anti-utopian. It hopes for the best, but expects the worst.
