If Israel really is God’s prophetic timepiece, how does that impact our lives? How should people who profess faith in the Messiah of Israel think about that, and about the Jewish people who are the native born Israelites? Samuel Wearp has some practical counsel about that based on his experience of serving Israel and the Jewish people. It starts with prayer, as we discuss in this second part of our conversation.
But how are the Jewish people still a factor in God’s redemptive plans? That’s what Barry Phillips and David Jones investigate in their midrash, “Duel Covenant” and what we hear in the music of Wilderness Cry.

If you will not listen, if you will not take it to heart to give honor to my name, says YHVH Tsevaot, then I will send the curse upon you and I will curse your blessings. Indeed, I have already cursed them, because you do not lay it to heart.
Malachi 2:2
If you follow only the parts of religion that seem good to you or that you fully understand, then it will do you more harm than good. Sacrifice and worship are for both God and man, but only God has a complete understanding of them.
("I have a relationship, not a religion" is a self-refuting, religious statement.)
He shall lay his hand on the head of the burnt offering, and it shall be accepted for him to make atonement for him.
Leviticus 1:4 ESV
Kafar, the Hebrew word for atonement, literally means to cover. It is the root of the word kapporet, which is the covering of the Ark of the Covenant and often translated as “mercy seat”.
Atonement, in the Biblical sense, doesn’t refer to making restitution to someone that you have wronged, but to creating a covering for something that protects it, hides it, or signals its submission to authority or all of those at once.

WORD FOR TODAY “can anyone else besides Aharon make an offering on the alter at the temple?”: Lev 8:27 Then he put it all in Sharon’s hands and in the hands of his sons and waved them as a wave offering before Adonai. Lev 8:28 Moshe took them out of their hands and made them go up in smoke on the altar on top of the burnt offering; they were a consecration offering giving a fragrant aroma; an offering made by fire to Adonai.
WISDOM FOR TODAY: Pro 17:9 He who conceals an offense promotes love, but he who harps on it can separate even close friends.

Psalm 77:5, “ I have considered the days of old, the years of ancient times.” Many scholars readily accept the history written by many cultures while rejecting the Biblical history of the Hebrew people. They study the Egyptian hieroglyphs and decipher the ancient language of the Middle East while basically ignoring the Hebrew prophets or considering them unimportant. David, Peter, Paul, Yeshua/Jesus and even Josephus all considered Biblical history relevant and factual.
