People who reject God also reject his law and, necessarily, all objective standards of morality. There can be no absolute law without an absolute Lawgiver. They say we have evolved beyond slavery and the archaic mandates of the Bible. They are deluded.

The Bible doesn't answer every question nor address every possible offense. Many passages are ambiguous and others require thinking through subtle implications before they can be fully understood. Many laws don't specify the details of legal procedure, leaving them up to circumstances or local ordinance.
The Bible was written for adults able to make logical connections, not children who need everything spelled out. The law concerning "an eye for an eye" in Exodus 21:18-25 is a good example. In context, it was never about vengeance, but about restitution. #mishpatim #torah

Do not say, “I will do to him as he has done to me; I will pay the man back for what he has done.”
Proverbs 24:29 ESV
The point of "an eye for an eye" in God's Law was never to return evil for evil, but to ensure restitution. It's wrong to hurt someone who hurt you, but it's not wrong to make them restore you as much as possible.

A parallelism in Exodus 21:12-17 connects murder with the battery of a parent and connects kidnapping with the cursing of a parent. God takes "Honor your father and mother" very seriously.
- A - V12-14 – Murder and manslaughter
--- B - V15 – Battery of a parent
- A - V16 – Kidnapping
--- B - V17 – Mortal cursing of a parent
Verse 15 applies to attempted patricide/matricide, not just physical abuse, and verse 17 applies to cursing with deadly intent, not to just bad mouthing or wishing ill against someone.
As with all other capital crimes, there must be two witnesses in order to convict the accused.
