Yochanan Ben Yisrael
18 Mishpatym – Day 3
Sh’moth 22:5-27
“When a man lets a field or vineyard be grazed bare, and lets loose his livestock, and it feeds in another man’s field, he repays from the best of his own field and the best of his own vineyard.
“When fire breaks out and spreads to thorn bushes, so that stacked grain, or standing grain, or the field is consumed, he who kindled the fire shall certainly repay.
“When a man gives silver or material things to his neighbor to guard, and it is stolen out of the man’s house, if the thief is found, he repays double.
“If the thief is not found, then the master of the house shall be brought before Elohim to see whether he has put his hand into his neighbor’s material things.
“For every matter of transgression, for ox, for donkey, for sheep, for garment, or for whatever is lost which another claims to be his, let the matter of them both come before Elohim. And whomever Elohim declares wrong repays double to his neighbor.
“When a man gives to his neighbor a donkey, or ox, or sheep, or any beast to watch over, and it dies, or is injured, or is driven away while no one is looking, let an oath of YHWH be between them both, that he has not put his hand into his neighbor’s material things. And the owner of it shall accept that, and he does not repay.
“But if it is indeed stolen from him, he repays to its owner.
“If it is torn to pieces, then let him bring it for evidence, he does not repay what was torn.
“And when a man borrows from his neighbor, and it is injured or dies while the owner of it is not present, he shall certainly repay.
“But if its owner was with it, he does not repay. If it was hired, he is entitled to the hire.
“And when a man entices a maiden who is not engaged, and lies with her, he shall certainly pay the bride-price for her to be his wife.
“If her father absolutely refuses to give her to him, he pays according to the bride-price of maidens.
“Do not allow a practicer of witchcraft to live.
“Anyone lying with a beast shall certainly be put to death.
“He who slaughters to an elohim, except to YHWH only, is put under the ban.
“Do not tread down a sojourner or oppress him, for you were sojourners in the land of Mitsrayim.
“Do not afflict any widow or fatherless child.
“If you do afflict them at all – if they cry out to Me at all, I shall certainly hear their cry, and My wrath shall burn and I shall kill you with the sword, your wives shall be widows and your children fatherless.
“If you do lend silver to any of My people, the poor among you, you are not to be like one that lends on interest to him. Do not lay interest on him.
“If you take your neighbor’s garment as a pledge at all, you are to return it to him before the sun goes down.
“For that is his only covering, it is his garment for his skin. What does he sleep in? And it shall be that when he cries to Me, I shall hear, for I show favor.

Yochanan Ben Yisrael
Tehillah 82 – Day 3 (Yom Shlishy)
Elohim stands in the congregation of Ěl; He judges in the midst of the elohim.
How long would you judge perversely, And show partiality to the wrong? Selah.
Give judgment to the poor and fatherless, Do right to the afflicted and needy.
Rescue the poor and needy; Deliver them from the hand of the wrong.
They do not know, nor do they understand, They walk about in darkness. All the foundations of the earth are shaken.
I, I said, “You are elohim, And all of you are sons of the Most High.
“But as men you die, And fall as one of the heads.”
Arise, O Elohim, judge the earth, For You shall possess all the nations.

Mishpatym - פרשת משפטים - “Judgments”
Torah: Exodus 21:1-24:18
Haftarah: Jeremiah 34:8-22; 33:25-26
Kethuvym Hatalmidym: John 14:6, Acts 24:14
Shalom aleykhem, achym, b’shem Yehoshua Hamashiach, Hadavar YHWH ~ Peace unto you, my brothers, in the name of Yehoshua the Messiah, the Word of YHWH.
“Behold I send a messenger before thy face to guard thee in The Way and to bring thee to the place that I have prepared”.
(YHWH)
“And this I confess to you that according to The Way, which they call a sect, so I worship the Elohym of my fathers, believing all that has been written in the Torah and the Prophets.”
(Paul of Tarsus)
“I am The Way, The Truth, and The Life, and no one comes to the Father except through me.”
(Yehoshua Hamashiach)
The Way is a simple, unadulterated method for walking out the Torah of YHWH. Moshe, all of the prophets, Yehoshua himself and all of his talmidym, walked out their lives according to this method. The Way hasn’t changed from the moment of creation until now. It never will. YHWH Himself has promised it will not; as it is written,
“I, YHWH, change not. Therefore you, O sons of Ya’aqov, are not consumed.”
If He could break that promise, He could break any promise He made. But, YHWH is faithful. Yehoshua taught this and Paul understood it. Paul even forsook many of the man-made rabbinical ways that he had spent a lifetime learning under the greatest teachers of his day, but which also ultimately contradicted Torah, in order to adopt only the pure Word and teachings that Yehoshua gave to him. That Yehoshua is. Yehoshua is the living Torah and every other word YHWH has spoken, such as:
“Thus saith YHWH; ‘Stand in The Way and see, and ask for the ancient path, where the excellent Way is, and walk in it – and find rest for your souls.’ But they said, ‘We do not walk!’ And I raised up watchmen over you. Listen for the sound of the shofar! But they said, ‘We do not listen!’ Therefore hear, you nations, and know, O congregation, what is upon thee! Hear O earth! See I am bringing evil upon this people, even the fruit of their thoughts, because they have not listened to My Word or My Torah, and they have rejected them.”
It was through this Word that YHWH created all things, and that same Word has been with Him from the beginning. It will not change, nor contradict itself. Do not reject it brothers but submit yourself to it with humility and grace – to the one of whom it is said,
“Yehoshua Hamashiach, the same yesterday, and today, and forever.”
Embrace the Word, embrace the Torah, embrace Yehoshua – as Paul did. Embrace The Way, and He will go before your face to guard you in it and bring you to the place that YHWH has prepared for you.
May you find the courage to do it today.

The exile of a manslayer (someone who accidentally kills another) to one of the cities of refuge is for the protection of the manslayer *and* of anyone who might be tempted to bring guilt on himself by taking revenge. See Exodus 21:13.
The wording of this verse ("God let him fall into his hand") implies God caused the death in question, so it wouldn't be appropriate to punish anyone, although some restitution is certainly in order ("life for life"). God gives life and He takes it away. He requires no justification and He answers to no one.
There are 10 capital crimes in #mishpatim (Exodus 21-24):
1-Murder
2-Premeditated murder
3-Battery of a parent
4-Kidnapping
5-Cursing a parent (mortal cursing is implied, I think)
6-Failure to control a dangerous animal who kills someone
7-Night burglary if caught and killed in the act. (Not really a prescribed penalty, but it is a justified homicide according to God.)
8-Sorcery
9-Beastiality
10-Idolatry
There are a few other crimes for which God prescribes death in other passages, but they aren't as numerous as some detractors of the Bible would have you believe. None of these are "victimless crimes".
Whoever curses his father or his mother, his lamp will be snuffed out in utter darkness.
Proverbs 20:20 TLV
See Exodus 21:17. The penalty for a mortal curse against your parents is death. The penalty for other kinds of curses and mistreatment of your parents is rejection by good people, and then you will be stuck with the company of other cursed people.
