A leader needs the buy-in of his subordinates--or at least of his lieutenants--in order to make any real change. Without it, he will never be able to break free of the mistakes of his predecessors. Unfortunately, their agreement in this case seems to have been a farce since they all turned their back on this covenant the moment he died.
“Therefore they shall come and sing in the height of Zion, Streaming to the goodness of the Lord (Yahuwah)— For wheat and new wine and oil, For the young of the flock and the herd;
Their souls shall be like a well-watered garden, And they shall sorrow no more at all.”
Jeremiah 31:12 NKJV
The shedding of innocent blood may be atoned for by the generally righteous behavior of all the people, especially their leaders. A righteous majority can deflect the judgment brought by a wicked minority.
But when that scale begins to tip the other way, watch out. If the righteous become too small a minority, a society is doomed. See Sodom.
