The Jebusites in Jerusalem are like sin in our lives. Israel could never get rid of them on their own. It took David, a foreshadowing of the Messiah, to finally rid them of that blight.

Judah wasn't able to drive all of the Canaanites from their territory in the time of Joshua. They had to wait for David, a foreshadowing of Messiah, to remove the stain of the Jebusites from Jerusalem

And the king stood by the pillar and made a covenant before YHWH, to walk after YHWH and to keep his commandments...and all the people joined in the covenant.
2 Kings 23:3

A leader needs the buy-in of his subordinates--or at least of his lieutenants--in order to make any real change. Without it, he will never be able to break free of the mistakes of his predecessors. Unfortunately, their agreement in this case seems to have been a farce since they all turned their back on this covenant the moment he died.

“Therefore they shall come and sing in the height of Zion, Streaming to the goodness of the Lord (Yahuwah)— For wheat and new wine and oil, For the young of the flock and the herd;

Their souls shall be like a well-watered garden, And they shall sorrow no more at all.”
‭‭Jeremiah‬ ‭31‬:‭12‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

The shedding of innocent blood may be atoned for by the generally righteous behavior of all the people, especially their leaders. A righteous majority can deflect the judgment brought by a wicked minority.

But when that scale begins to tip the other way, watch out. If the righteous become too small a minority, a society is doomed. See Sodom.
Deuteronomy 21:8-9

And all the elders of that city nearest to the slain man shall wash their hands over the heifer whose neck was broken in the valley, and they shall testify, Our hands did not shed this blood, nor did our eyes see it shed.
Deuteronomy 21:6-7

If the civil authorities refuse to investigate crimes and to bring murderers to justice, they bring blood guilt on themselves and on the whole community.

People who believe in the Creator are often accused of having some “blind faith” but is that faith accepted without proof? Psalm 27:13, I would have lost heart unless I see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living.” David’s faith was not blind, he looks for the goodness of our Creator right hear in His creation.
