These instructions echo what God told Israel before the Exodus. If any Israelite didn't put the lamb's blood on the door or left the house before morning, his death would be his own fault. No matter who your ancestors are, if you reject God's grace, you are on your own. It's not enough to be a Jew or an Israelite or "culturally Christian". You must believe in Him for yourself.

The Hebrew in this verse for "line of scarlet thread" is "tikvah khut hashaniy", which can also be translated "hope of scarlet thread". It's really cool the way that God slips these prophetic messages into the Bible's stories.

If anyone wishes to learn Torah law in detail, both the rabbinical version of 613 and those commands not listed specifically by the rabbis, I recommend our recent series on this which can be found on the YouTube channel of Sabbath Keepers Fellowship. It goes through the entire yearly cycle of Torah portions, week by week, listing and briefly expounding on every command. The series is presently new, having just recently been completed, and is still raw and unedited, but all available to view. Soon, we hope to have the edited version complete, which will omit the post-lesson comments and questions by others and will be much shorter.

The census in the Torah was the measure of Israel's military might. All men 20 years and up. It's the basis for our modern selective service registration. If we add women to that, is it the final nail in the coffin or just another step down our path of rebellion?

Paul's use of the potter and clay analogy is from Isaiah 29 that speaks of God's temporary hardening of Israel because of their sins. They blinded themselves with pride, so he blinded them further to ensure that his judgment would be carried out, with the intent that the nation would eventually repent and be restored.
