Zealotry isn't an excuse for lawlessness. You don't get to abuse people just because you're passionate about something, no matter how good a cause you think it to be. "Love your neighbor" is an overriding principle in Scripture, and "God knows my heart" is not an excuse to ignore his commandments regarding how to treat other people any more than it's an excuse to ignore people's sins.
