READINGS FOR OMER COUNT – DAY 42

Behold, I am about to fulfill the affirmative precept of the counting of the Omer, as it is written in the Torah:

“And ye shall count unto you from the morrow after the Shabbath, from the day that ye brought the Omer of the wave-offering, seven complete weeks they shall be; until the morrow of the seventh Shabbath shall ye number fifty days.”

Blessed art Thou YHWH, our Elohym, King of the universe, who hast set us apart by Thy commandments and hast given us command concerning the counting of the Omer.

This is the forty-second day, making six weeks and zero days of the Omer.

May the All Merciful restore the service of the Temple to its place. May it be Thy will, YHWH our Elohym and Elohym of our fathers, that the Temple be speedily rebuilt in our days, and grant our portion in Thy Torah. And there we will serve Thee with awe, as in the days of old and as in ancient years.

May Elohym be favorable unto us and bless us. That Thy way may be known upon the earth, Thy salvation among all nations. Let the peoples give thanks unto Thee, Elohym; let all the peoples give thanks unto Thee. Let the nations rejoice and exult: for Thou wilt judge the peoples with equity and lead the nations upon the earth. Let the peoples give thanks unto Thee, Elohym; let all the peoples give thanks unto Thee. The earth hath yielded her increase: Elohym, even our Elohym, shall bless us. Elohym shall bless us; and all the ends of the earth shall fear Him.

READINGS: TEHILLAH 112

Praise Yah! Blessed is the man, Who fears YHWH, Who has greatly delighted in His commands.

Mighty in the earth shall be his seed, The generation of the straight ones shall be blessed.

Wealth and riches are in his house, And his righteousness is standing forever.

Light has risen in the darkness to the straight ones, Those showing favor, The compassionate, And the righteous.

Excellent is a man showing favor and lending, He sustains his matters in judgment.

For he is never shaken; The righteous is remembered forever.

He is not afraid of an evil report. His heart is steadfast, trusting in YHWH.

His heart is upheld, he is not afraid, While he looks on his adversaries.

He scattered abroad, He gave to the poor, His righteousness is standing forever. His horn is exalted with esteem.

The wrong one sees it and shall be vexed; He gnashes his teeth and shall melt. The desire of the wrong ones does perish.

READINGS: TEHILLAH 113

Praise Yah! Praise, O servants of YHWH, Praise the Name of YHWH!

Blessed be the Name of YHWH, Now and forever!

From the rising of the sun to its going down, The Name of YHWH is praised.

YHWH is high above all nations, His esteem above the heavens.

Who is like YHWH our Elohim, Who is enthroned on high?

He looks down on the heavens and in the earth; He raises the poor out of the dust, Lifts the needy from a dunghill, To make him sit with the nobles, With the nobles of His people, Causing the barren woman to dwell in a house, A rejoicing mother of children. Praise Yah!

READINGS: TEHILLAH 114

When Yisra’ěl went out of Mitsrayim, The house of Ya‛aqoḇ from a people of strange language, Yehuḏah became His set-apart place, And Yisra’ěl His rule.

The sea saw it and fled; The Yarděn turned back.

The mountains skipped like rams, The little hills like lambs.

Why was it, O sea, that you fled? O Yarděn, that you turned back?

O mountains, that you skipped like rams? O little hills, like lambs?

Tremble, O earth, from the face of the Master, From the face of the Eloah of Ya‛aqoḇ, Who turned the rock into a pool of water, The flint into a fountain of water.

READINGS: TEHILLAH 115

Not to us, O YHWH, not to us, But to Your Name give esteem, For Your mercy, For Your truth.

Why should the nations say, “Where now is their Elohim?”

But our Elohim is in the heavens; Whatever pleased Him, He has done.

Their idols are silver and gold, The work of men’s hands.

They have mouths, but they do not speak; They have eyes, but they do not see; They have ears, but they do not hear; They have noses, but they do not smell; They have hands, but they do not handle; They have feet, but they do not walk; They make no sound through their throat.

The ones who make them, shall become like them – All who trust in them.

O Yisra’ěl, trust in YHWH; He is their help and their shield.

O house of Aharon, trust in YHWH; He is their help and their shield.

You who fear YHWH, trust in YHWH; He is their help and their shield.

YHWH has remembered us; He blesses us; He blesses the house of Yisra’ěl; He blesses the house of Aharon.

He blesses those who fear YHWH, The small and the great.

YHWH gives you increase more and more, You and your children.

You are blessed by YHWH, Who made the heavens and earth.

The heavens are the heavens of YHWH; But He has given the earth to the children of men.

The dead do not praise Yah, Nor any going down to silence.

But we, we bless Yah Now and forever. Praise Yah!

READINGS: MISHLE 25:15-28

Through patience a ruler is persuaded, And a soft tongue shatters a bone.

Have you found honey? Eat only as much as you need, Lest you be satisfied with it and vomit.

Make your foot rare in your neighbor’s house, Lest he gets enough of you and hate you.

A man bearing false witness against his neighbor Is like a club and a sword and a sharp arrow.

Trust in a treacherous man in time of distress Is like a broken tooth or a foot out of joint.

One who takes away a garment in cold weather, Is like vinegar on soda, And a singer of songs on an evil heart.

If your enemy is hungry give him bread to eat, And if he is thirsty give him water to drink, For you are heaping coals of fire on his head, And YHWH rewards you.

The north wind brings rain, And a secret tongue an enraged face.

It is better to dwell in a corner of a roof, Than in a house shared with a contentious woman.

Like cold water to a parched throat, Is excellent news from a distant land.

A righteous man who gives way before the wrong, Is like a muddied spring and a ruined fountain.

It is not excellent to eat much honey. Is it esteem to seek one’s own esteem?

A man who has no control over his spirit Is like a broken-down city without a wall.

READINGS: AVOTH 5:12-18

At four periods pestilence grows apace: in the fourth year, in the seventh, at the conclusion of the seventh year, and at the conclusion of The Feast in each year: in the fourth year, for default of giving the tithe to the poor in the third year; in the seventh year, for default of giving the tithe to the poor in the sixth year; at the conclusion of the seventh year, for the violation of the law regarding the fruits of the seventh year; and at the conclusion of The Feast in each year, for robbing the poor of the grants legally assigned to them.

There are four characters among men: he who says, what is mine is mine and what is thine is thine, his is a neutral character (some say, this is a character like that of Sodom); he who says, what is mine is thine and what is thine is mine, is a boor; he who says, what is mine is thine and what is thine is thine, is a saint; he who says, what is thine is mine and what is mine is mine, is a wicked man.

There are four kinds of tempers: he whom it is easy to provoke and easy to pacify, his loss disappears in his gain; he whom it is hard to provoke and hard to pacify, his gain disappears in his loss; he whom it is hard to provoke and easy to pacify is a saint; he whom it is easy to provoke and hard to pacify, is a wicked man.

There are four qualities in disciples: he who quickly understands and quickly forgets, his gain disappears in his loss; he who understands with difficulty and forgets with difficulty, his loss disappears in his gain; he who understands quickly and forgets with difficulty, his is an excellent portion; he who understands with difficulty and forgets quickly, his is an evil portion.

As to almsgiving there are four dispositions: he who desires to give, but that others should not give, his eye is evil towards what appertains to others; he who desires that others should give, but will not give himself, his eye is evil against what is his own; he who gives and wishes others to give, is a saint; he who will not give and does not wish others to give, is a wicked man.

There are four characters suggested by those who attend the house of study: he who goes and does not practice, secures the reward for going; he who practices but does not go, secures the reward for practicing; he who goes and practices, is a saint; he who neither goes nor practices, is a wicked man.

There are four qualities among those that sit before the wise: they are like a sponge, a funnel, a strainer, or a sieve: a sponge, which sucks up everything; a funnel, which lets in at one end and out at the other; a strainer, which lets the wine pass out and retains the lees; a sieve, which lets out the bran and retains the fine flour.
