I did a comic a while back showing that there are three types of categories of things in the Bible: Holy, Common, and Pagan (or unholy). I want to dive deeper into each category. This is on what is Holy.

In the Bible, the word we see as holy is קדש (kadosh) in Hebrew. This means to be set apart. Our English definition of holy is "exalted or worthy of complete devotion as one perfect in goodness and righteousness" according to Merriam-Webster. Not quite the same thing.

The first thing called holy in the Bible is the Sabbath in Genesis 2:3:

"So God blessed the seventh day and made it holy(קדש), because on it God rested(שבת[shabbat], where we get the word Sabbath from) from all his work that he had done in creation."

Kadosh is used a total of 172 times in the OT, most of those being in the first 5 books, where YHWH is describing what is and isn't holy.

In 1 Peter 1:16, Peter quotes part of Leviticus 11:44:

"since it is written, 'You shall be holy, for I am holy."

This chapter in Leviticus is talking about what is and isn't food. YHWH is equating eating things that He intended for food as being holy.

Looking at the Greek word used in 1 Peter for holy, we can see other passages in the NT using this term.

In Romans 7:12, Paul calls the Law holy, just and good. Later in Romans 12, Paul beseeches his readers to be holy, acceptable to YHWH as a living sacrifice.

In today's culture, we seem to see holiness as just someone being pious or saying a prayer over something or just anything related to the church. This isn't what the Bible teaches though.

Holiness is being set apart. For us, it is being set apart from the world and what it does. We are called to be set apart as we saw in the above verses.

How do we be set apart? By following what YHWH says is set apart: His Law.

An important note to make: we don't get to decide what is holy and what isn't. YHWH does. I've had many conversations with people on "taking this back for God". We aren't instructed anywhere to do such a thing. In most of these cases it is something that is Pagan that the person is wanting to now call Holy or Common. We will get into why this isn't something we should be doing in the Pagan comic.

Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he had come from God and was going back to God...
John 13:3

I don't see a reasonable way to interpret the Gospel of John to say that #yeshua is not God and didn't exist before his conception in Mary. Yeshua existed before Creation, created everything, is God, was God, came from God, and returned to God.

I get that this is difficult to understand, but insisting that there is no way to reconcile these apparent discrepancies shows an inability (at best) or unwillingness (at worst) to think outside one's own box.

Also notice that this thought is echoed by Paul in Ephesians 4:8-10. I think that's deliberate, and it dramatically contradicts how many people interpret Paul's words.

maybe it's because people are struggling separating His Being with His flesh.
It may be different, but it looks like the flesh that He became (john 1:14) only got formed in mary's womb. and looking at it like that, Him IN the flesh, ie His flesh, had not existed before.
i say it like this because we talk of things of God from our limited (biological) understanding.
this does not in any way contradict the description john gives of His begotten Being.
we, on the other hand, get created into being along with our flesh.
it's the trap of thinking you are (a part of) your flesh, iso realising your (by itself dead) flesh is but a part of you.

WORD FOR TODAY ” would you follow this crazy idea?”: Exo 32:1 When the people saw that Moshe was taking a long time to come down from the mountain, they gathered around Aharon and said to him, "Get busy; and make us gods to go ahead of us; because this Moshe, the man that brought us up from the land of Egypt—we don't know what has become of him."

WISDOM FOR TODAY: Pro 19:8 To acquire good sense is to love oneself; to treasure discernment is to prosper.

POSITIVE WORD FOR TODAY: Isa 40:31 Yet those who wait for the LORD Will gain new strength; They will mount up with wings like eagles, They will run and not get tired, They will walk and not become weary.

"Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of such things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience.
Be not therefore companions with them."
