READINGS FOR OMER – DAY 05

Behold, I am about to fulfill the affirmative precept of the counting of the Omer, as it is written in the Torah, “And ye shall count unto you from the morrow after the Shabbath, from the day that ye brought the Omer of the wave-offering, seven complete weeks they shall be; until the morrow of the seventh Shabbath shall ye number fifty days.” Blessed art Thou YHWH, our Elohym, King of the universe, who hast set us apart by Thy commandments and hast given us command concerning the counting of the Omer.

This is the fifth day, making no weeks and five days of the Omer.

May the All Merciful restore the service of the Temple to its place. May it be Thy will, YHWH our Elohym and Elohym of our fathers, that the Temple be speedily rebuilt in our days, and grant our portion in Thy Torah. And there we will serve Thee with awe, as in the days of old and as in ancient years.

May Elohym be favorable unto us and bless us. That Thy way may be known upon the earth, Thy salvation among all nations. Let the peoples give thanks unto Thee, Elohym; let all the peoples give thanks unto Thee. Let the nations rejoice and exult: for Thou wilt judge the peoples with equity and lead the nations upon the earth. Let the peoples give thanks unto Thee, Elohym; let all the peoples give thanks unto Thee. The earth hath yielded her increase: Elohym, even our Elohym, shall bless us. Elohym shall bless us; and all the ends of the earth shall fear Him.

READINGS: TEHILLAH 11

In YHWH I have taken refuge; Why do you say to me, “Flee to your mountain like a bird”? For look! The wrong bend a bow, They set their arrow on the string, To shoot in darkness at the upright in heart.

When the foundations are destroyed, What shall the righteous do?

YHWH is in His set-apart Hěḵal, The throne of YHWH is in the heavens. His eyes see, His eyelids examine the sons of men. YHWH tries the righteous, But His being shall hate the wrong And the one who loves violence. Upon the wrong He rains snares, Fire and sulphur and a scorching wind Are the portion of their cup. For YHWH is righteous, He has loved righteousness; The upright shall see His face.

READINGS: TEHILLAH 12

Save, YHWH, for the merciful one is no more! For the trustworthy have ceased from among the sons of men. They speak falsehood with each other; They speak with flattering lips, a double heart. YHWH does cut off all flattering lips, A tongue that speaks swelling words, Who have said, “With our tongue we do mightily; Our lips are our own; Who is master over us?”

“Because of the oppression of the poor, because of the sighing of the needy, I now arise,” says YHWH, “I set in safety – he pants for it.” The Words of YHWH are clean Words, Silver tried in a furnace of earth, Refined seven times.

You guard them, O YHWH, You preserve them from this generation forever. The wrong walk around on every side, When worthlessness is exalted among the sons of men.

READINGS: TEHILLAH 13

How long would You forget me, O YHWH? Forever? How long would You hide Your face from me? How long would I take counsel in my being, Grief in my heart day by day? How long would my enemy be exalted over me?

Look! Answer me, O YHWH my Elohim; Enlighten my eyes, Lest I sleep in death;

Lest my enemy say, “I have prevailed against him,” Lest my adversaries rejoice when I am moved.

But I have trusted in Your mercy; My heart rejoices in Your deliverance.

I sing to YHWH, Because He has been excellent to me.

READINGS: TEHILLAH 14

The fool has said in his heart, “There is no YHWH.” They have done corruptly, They have done an abominable deed, There is no one who does excellent.

YHWH looked down from the heavens on the sons of mankind, To see if there is a wise one, seeking YHWH.

They have all turned aside, They have together become filthy; No one is doing excellent, not even one.

Have all the workers of wickedness no knowledge, Who eat up my people as they eat bread, And do not call on YHWH?

There they are in great fear, For YHWH is with the generation of the righteous.

You would put to shame the counsel of the poor, But YHWH is his refuge.

O that the deliverance of Yisra’ěl Would be given out of Tsiyon! When YHWH turns back the captivity of His people, Let Ya‛aqoḇ rejoice, let Yisra’ěl be glad.

READINGS: MISHLE 4:1-27

Children, listen to the discipline of a father, And give attention to know understanding;

For I gave you excellent instruction: Do not forsake my Torah.

For I was my father’s son, Tender and the only one in the eyes of my mother,

Then he taught me and said to me, “Let your heart hold fast my words; Guard my commands, and live.

“Get wisdom! Get understanding! Do not forget, and do not turn away From the words of my mouth.

“Do not leave her, and let her guard you; Love her, and let her watch over you.

“The beginning of wisdom is: Get wisdom! And with all your getting, get understanding.

“Exalt her, and let her uplift you; She brings you esteem when you embrace her.

“She gives your head a fair wreath, She shields you with an adorning crown.”

Hear, my son, and accept my words, And let the years of your life be many.

I have taught you in the way of wisdom, I have led you in straight paths.

When you walk your steps shall not be hindered, And if you run you shall not stumble.

Become strong in discipline, do not let go; Watch over her, for she is your life.

Do not enter the path of the wrong, And do not walk in the way of evil-doers.

Avoid it, do not pass by it; Turn away from it and pass on.

For they do not sleep unless they have done evil. And their sleep is taken away unless they make someone fall.

For they have eaten the bread of wrongdoing, And they drink the wine of violence.

But the path of the righteous is like the light of dawn, That shines ever brighter unto the perfect day.

The way of the wrong is like darkness; They do not know at what they stumble.

My son, listen to my words; Incline your ear to my sayings.

Let them not depart from your eyes; Guard them in the midst of your heart;

For they are life to those who find them, And healing to all their flesh.

Watch over your heart with all diligence, For out of it are the sources of life.

Turn away from you a crooked mouth, And put perverse lips far from you.

Let your eyes look forward, And your eyelids look straight before you.

Consider the path of your feet, And all your ways are established.

Do not turn to the right or the left; Turn your foot away from evil.

READINGS: AVOTH 1:11

Avtal’yon said, ye sages, be heedful of your words, lest ye incur the penalty of exile and be exiled to a place of evil waters, and the disciples who come after you drink thereof and die, and the Heavenly Name be profaned.

It's easy to feel disconnected from 'the world' the closer to we get to Yah, after all, that is sort of the point. But isolation was never Father's intention. Online community is great, but it's not sufficient. I have found myself in a place of isolation, not intentional, but 'friends' seem to distance themselves when you take Yah seriously. Social media is a great tool, but Father is leading me to disconnect to an extent, so I'm working on that but it feels so isolating, and yet at the same time you think, would anyone even notice? I'm craving a real in the flesh friend who loves Yah just as much as I do, who likes to talk about deep things, who can give and receive sound advice, who has hobbies and interests outside of this world's idea of fun...
And how embarrassing is it to admit you don't know how to make new friends now days? 😂

I want to be more intentional to go on more walks this summer, sit on a bench, say hi to someone... see where the Father leads. Maybe this season is a test, sometimes stepping out of our comfort zone is what Father is asking. After all we are called to be His hand and feet, how can we do that if we are isolating? #fathersendme

I am in the same boat as you. It used to be my daughter & I were an island together, but she is rebelling against Yah and embracing the world. I dont connect easily with people anyway, so trying to find someone I can talk about deep things is frustrating. I tried "evangelising" to make friends. Not a single convert. Even people who claim to love Torah are not on the same wavelength most of the time, and are too far away to meet in person most of the time. If you come up with a method of making real friends that works, please do share! Praying we both figure it out!

There is a kind of breakdown present in many Messianic communities. I think Covid being self-isolating kicked it off, but I think it is an older problem. People seem to be content to stay in the same holding patterns and most often that means "Where I get my money I ain't disturbing with nobody or nothing".

Then Moses said to Aaron, “This is what YHWH has said: ‘Among those who are near me I will be sanctified, and before all the people I will be glorified.’” And Aaron held his peace.
Leviticus 10:3

God said this concerning Aaron's sons who had just been destroyed by divine fire for unauthorized innovation in their priestly service. The closer you get to God, the closer you are to judgment.

Now Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, each took his censer and put fire in it and laid incense on it and offered unauthorized fire before YHWH, which he had not commanded them. And fire came out from before YHWH and consumed them, and they died before YHWH.
Leviticus 10:1-2 #shmini

Pride, presumption, disobedience, lack of preparation = disaster.

The right thing to do can be difficult to discern at times. When you doubt, err on the side of life, mercy, and humility. #torah #yeshua

This always reminds me of "you shall not kindle a fire on the Sabbath". But why not??? is the first response that comes to mind.

The next is to find an explanation that fits our lifestyle and wants.

After a few mental gymnastics we come to a conclusion that suits us and fits in with our needs. But is that how we should be dealing with the law? Is that what Nadab and Abihu did? They received a law and then "thunked" it out for themselves and came to the wrong conclusion?

Cut off your hair and cast it away; raise a lamentation on the bare heights, for YHWH has rejected and forsaken the generation of his wrath.
Jeremiah 7:29

The Bible never says that it's a sin to grow your hair long or to shave it all off, in fact there are times when a person was required to do both. However, in the ancient Hebrew culture, a shaved head was a symbol of humility and shame. It wasn't an honorable thing. See the Bible's treatment of lepers, war brides, priests, and Nazirites.
