When therefore I have completed this and have delivered to them what has been collected, I will leave for Spain by way of you.
Romans 15:28 ESV
We know from Acts 21 and onward that Paul was able to come to Rome eventually, but not on his way to Spain. His missionary trip to the Iberian Peninsula was interrupted by his arrest at the Temple in Acts 21:33. There is some debate about whether he was imprisoned in Rome once or twice and if he might have journeyed to Spain--or even further--in between. There are some traditions of Paul visiting Span and Britain, but no solid evidence.
I hope to see you in passing as I go to Spain, and to be helped on my journey there by you, once I have enjoyed your company for a while.
Romans 15:24 ESV
Most maritime trading routes between the Eastern and Western Empires passed through Ostia Antica, the major port nearest Rome. Having determined to take the Gospel to Spain, a stop in Rome wasn’t out of his way. In fact, it was probably unavoidable, and he wasn’t going to waste the opportunity to visit with the Roman assembly and possibly receive financial assistance from them to aid his mission.
Such journeys also usually took weeks or months to complete. A journey from Tyre to the Spanish Mediterranean coast would likely make a half-dozen or more stops along the way, not only to replenish supplies, but to engage in trade. The ship could be in each port for a few days to weeks--longer in larger ports like Ostia Antica--and passengers might wait or look for another vessel for the next leg of the journey.
1 Samuel 15:23, “For rebellion is like the sin of divination, and arrogance is like the wickedness of idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the LORD, He has rejected you as king.” Samuel is stripping Saul of authority because of his arrogance that led to disobedience. No one can lead a righteous nation if they, themselves do not strive to be righteous.

Is pagan tradition like Poison Ivy?…
Poison ivy's oil, urushiol, remains potent after leaving the plant. Its effectiveness depends on environmental conditions and surface type:
Urushiol can stay active for 1-5 years on objects like clothing, tools, or pet fur if not washed off. It resists degradation from heat, cold, or drying out.
The oil on dead poison ivy leaves or stems can remain active for up to 5 years under dry conditions. And contact with contaminated surfaces can cause a rash in sensitive individuals even months or years later, as urushiol doesn't break down easily without cleaning.
Washing with soap and water or specialized products within 10 minutes to an hour of exposure can remove the oil and prevent a reaction. Alcohol-based wipes also work.
Very rare individuals can come in contact with urushiol to no ill effect…
Yes. Pagan Tradition is just like Poison Ivy. Contact with it will infact negatively affect, almost everyone who has contact with it. In extremely rare cases, a person can handle it without issues but in almost all cases it causes a spreading problem.
Also, like poison ivy, pagan tradition has a way of affecting other things beyond itself. Just as the urushiol oil of poison ivy can remain on surfaces long after the plant has passed and upon the dead leaves, long after the plant has died so as to affect the unsuspecting, so too pagan tradition can lie in the most unsuspecting of places and negatively affect people who are otherwise unawares. Even when our pagan tradition is dead, contact can harm even still.
So be aware of such plants…Whether they be physical or spiritual.

NEW TESTAMENT
MATTHEW 6:16 & 18
"And when you fast, don't make it obvious, as the hypocrites do, who try to look pale and dishevelled so people will admire them for their fasting. And your Father, who knows all secrets, will reward you.

OLD TESTAMENT
LEVITICUS 16:29 & 31
"On the appointed day in early autumn, you must spend the day fasting and not do any work. This is a permanent law for you, and it applies to those who are Israelites by birth, as well as to the foreigners living among you. It will be a Shabbat day of total rest, and you will spend the day in fasting. This is a permanent law for you.
LEVITICUS 23:32
This will be a Shabbat day of total rest for you, and on that day you must humble yourselves. This time of rest and fasting will begin the evening before the Day of Atonement and extend until evening of that day."

ISAIAH 1:13
The incense you bring me is a stench in my nostrils! Your celebrations of the new moon and the Shabbat day, and your special days for fasting-even your most pious meetings-are all sinful and false. I want nothing more to do with them.
ISAIAH 58:3,4,5 & 6
'We have fasted before you!' they say. 'Why aren't you impressed? We have done much penance, and you don't even notice it!' "I will tell you why! It's because you are living for yourselves even while you are fasting. You keep right on oppressing your workers. What good is fasting when you keep on fighting and quarrelling? This kind of fasting will never get you anywhere with me. You humble yourselves by going through the motions of penance, bowing your heads like a blade of grass in the wind. You dress in sackcloth and cover yourselves with ashes. Is this what you call fasting? Do you really think this will please Adonai? "No, the kind of fasting I want calls you to free those who are wrongly imprisoned and to stop oppressing those who work for you. Treat them fairly and give them what they earn.
JEREMIAH 36:6 & 9
So you go to the Temple on the next day of fasting, and read the messages from Adonai that are on this scroll. On that day people will be there from all over Judah. This happened on the day of sacred fasting held in late autumn, during the fifth year of the reign of Jehoiakim son of Josiah. People from all over Judah came to attend the services at the Temple on that day.

JOEL 2:12 & 15
That is why Adonai says, "Turn to me now, while there is time! Give me your hearts. Come with fasting, weeping, and mourning. Blow the trumpet in Jerusalem! Announce a time of fasting; call the people together for a solemn meeting.
ZECHARIAH 7:5
"Say to all your people and your priests, 'During those seventy years of exile, when you fasted and mourned in the summer and at the festival in early autumn, was it really for me that you were fasting?
