Proverbs 2:5
It is impossible to comprehend God without diligent study. You cannot simply feel or reason your way to understanding him. You need to follow the prescription outlined in the preceding verses 1-4 with the understanding that the words, commandments, and knowledge are those of God and God-fearing people who already know him. The wisdom and advice of unbelievers will tend to lead you farther from the truth, not closer.

Just as one bad decision often leads to a worse decision, one good decision can lead to a better one. Consider the escalation of the quest for wisdom in Proverbs 2:1-4 from passive acceptance to obsessive searching.
