Everyone needs the Sabbath… But not everyone knows they need it. They can sense their exhaustion and depression, their anxiety and fears. They feel overwhelmed and overworked, hyper-stressed, and highly frustrated… But they can’t understand why.
And to suggest Sabbath as the solution sounds insane to most people. Therefore, to force such a person to face the solution, would for them, become one more problem.
Rest forced upon the working man who does not want it is like sobriety forced upon the drunkard, still enamored with his spirits.
It does not matter that this device is the thing that is harming him. He cannot physically understand it… And his body has grown accustomed to it. So that to take his drink away by force could cause more harm than good.
If he survives the withdrawals and finds himself finally free of the need of it, once he is physically free to choose again, he will choose the booze and be back where he was.
Why?
Because his mind was not set free.
If one is forced to Shabbat when one does not want to, he or she will not get the benefits from it. They will be bored. They will be planning and preparing. They will be in their heads, anxious for the time they can return to their laborers . Each will be physically ceasing their activities yet mentally remain on the job.
People have to see that it is real before they can try to keep the Sabbath. And they have to keep the Sabbath in order to understand it.
We received it by Grace and accepted it in Mercy. And only in this way, can anyone.

Psalm 90:1 —2, “Lord, You have been our dwelling place through all generations. Before the mountains were born or You brought forth the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting You are God.” David is credited with writing the majority of the Psalms, but this one is attributed to Moses. Most English translations do not include the first line, “A prayer of Moses the man of God.”
