Every seventh year, called the Shemitah year, the land needs a rest.
Technically, the commandments concerning the sabbatical year refer only to the land of Israel, but I believe the principles apply to the whole earth. Most farmers use crop rotation and other strategies to accomplish a similar end.
Deny the land its Sabbath and it might just rebel against you. Till, sow, prune, harvest, etc for six years, then let it go wild in the seventh. You may harvest what you need to eat from whatever grows on its own in that year. The Shemitah year produce may be freely harvested and eaten by slaves, hirelings, the landless, and animals, just not for resale or in bulk. Like the weekly Sabbath, the Shemitah teaches faith in YHVH, self-restraint, saving for the future, preparedness, and longer time horizons.

Today, we had a small group in Bulange village. A large part of the congregation was at the home of a neighbor whose daughter had been beaten to death by her husband. Whether the husband will be arrested, much less brought to justice, remains to be seen. This is much too common in Uganda and other African countries which consider women inferior and mere possessions, rather than precious Image Bearers of their Creator.
The spiritual darkness allows the Thief to "steal, kill, and destroy," as he has been doing since the Garden. The Lord is preparing Bulange village for a spiritual harvest. As we are studying the book of James, we read Ch. 1:18 in today's study: "[The Father] chose to give us birth through the Word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of all He created." Our little Bulange congregation is a firstfruits of the harvest to come.
On June 16, we are doing an all-day outreach event in Bulange. We will be praying and preparing for that day and for the Kingdom's harvest. We want the Thief exposed, the darkness vanquished, and souls brought into the Light of Yeshua. Will you pray with us? And together, we shall see what the Lord YHVH does. "The Kingdom of Elohim is not a matter of talk, but of power." (1 Cor. 4:20).

This weekend is one of the portions that was combined during the time I did Prophets and Gospel Portions - so while I did do a comic, it wasn't specific to just this portion. So I will post Prophets today and Gospel tomorrow.

Join Pastors Mike Sutcliffe and Kraig Dorney (Corner Fringe Ministries) and Pastors Nate Oyloe and Lucca Jo Groppoli (AgapeFirstMinistries.org) for a 3-week roundtable discussion regarding how our culture's modern concept of sexuality is at war with the image of God.
Dates and topics include:
• July 16 @ 7 PM - The Battle for the Hearts and Minds of Humanity
We’ll explore where our influence comes from (families, social media, entertainment, government, etc.).
• July 23 @ 7 PM - Equipping the Saints to Contend for the Faith
We’ll talk through several scenarios and how we, as believers, can effectively influence others.
• July 30 @ 7 PM - Restoring God’s Image in Our Homes
We’ll identify tools and next steps we can take to make a different in our homes and our communities.

Are we supposed to let our kids read just anything?
Is it true that we are to give our children a wide diet of knowledge, giving them principles of conduct -- and then let them choose what is right and wrong?
Some people say that our children can "listen to other perspectives without having their faith destroyed" -- and they include a lot of bad books in their children's curriculum because of this.
This is hogwash and very dangerous. Pretend we were living in the biblical land of Israel, around the time of Joshua. Are we supposed to teach our children a wide range of knowledge of how the Canaanites live, then give them principles of conduct, then let them go mingle with the Canaanites so they can learn to choose wisely?
The book of Deuteronomy absolutely says the opposite. We are not to learn the ways of the nations (Deuteronomy 12:29-32), and instead, we are to walk and talk with our kids all day about only right things from the Torah (Deuteronomy 11:18-23). And if someone enticed our children to sin, if we were in Israel, that person would die (Deuteronomy 13). Later in the dispersion, books that were bad were burned by the early believers in Yeshua (Acts 19:19), which tells me what we are to do with bad books. ?
Guard your children! Be a doorkeeper!
