Thoughts on Elul

4 w

Do we need to go through God's judgment? Is there something we could do, or should do, to get us ready to meet our Maker while we are still living out the life He has given us? These are some of the deep questions Barry Phillips and David Jones ponder about Elul, sixth month of the Hebrew calendar when we should examine ourselves and get ready for the Fall Feasts.

If the inhabitants of a city follow an idolatrous prophet and refuse to repent, God says the entire city and everything in it is to be destroyed. (Deuteronomy 13:12-17)

That's how seriously God views idolatry and taking his name in vain. Freedom of religion is great within the boundaries that God has set, but the worship of any deity except YHWH shouldn't be tolerated. Despite modern political dogma, idolatry is not a victimless crime. It poisons the whole people and damages their relationship with the Creator.

This fits nicely in with my question on Philippians 2 that says that every knee shall bow and call Yeshua Lord. This 'Lord' doesn't mean 'sir', but confers that Yeshua is being acknowledged as a deity/god.

How does that fit in with Deut 13 in your understanding as it goes against the second commandment as well?

The Kingdom of Heaven

The term “the Kingdom of Heaven” is famous in Christianity since it is used by Yeshua throughout his ministry – from exhorting people to “become little children” in order to enter it (Mt 18:3); comparing it to a treasure hidden in a field (Mt 13:44) or a mustard seed (Mt 13:31); to even talking about how the halakhic rules would be within the Kingdom (Mt 22:29).

What many people do not know is that this term, “Malchut haShamaim” (the kingdom of heaven), and the term “Malchut Elohim” (the kingdom of God; sometimes “Malchut Shaddai”), were terms widely used in the Jewish temporal context in which Yeshua lived.

This is the name scripture shows us by which we are saved. This shows it in Hebrew and we know it as Yeshua.

Ma`asei (Acts) 4:10-12 TS2009
[10] let it be known to all of you, and to all the people of Yisra’ĕl, that in the Name of יהושע Messiah of Natsareth, whom you impaled, whom Elohim raised from the dead, by Him this one stands before you, healthy. [11] This is ‘the stone which was rejected by you builders, which has become the chief corner-stone.’ [12] And there is no deliverance in anyone else, for there is no other Name under the heaven given among men by which we need to be saved.
