Thought for Today: Thursday June 05
Movies, TV’s, covers of magazines, the internet, advertisements – all scream sensual messages to us. “If it feels good, do it” has become a worldly motto. Yet, if you talk to people who have come to the Moshiach out of deep sin, they will tell you they wish they had never fallen into such sin, and that they had become believers sooner… The secret of purity is YHVH. When we are committed to the Moshiach, we will step back from everything that is impure. Instead, we will seek a pure heart – a heart that is cleansed by Ruach HaKodesh and the Word of Elohiym.

READINGS FOR OMER COUNT – DAY 47
Behold, I am about to fulfill the affirmative precept of the counting of the Omer, as it is written in the Torah:
“And ye shall count unto you from the morrow after the Shabbath, from the day that ye brought the Omer of the wave-offering, seven complete weeks they shall be; until the morrow of the seventh Shabbath shall ye number fifty days.”
Blessed art Thou YHWH, our Elohym, King of the universe, who hast set us apart by Thy commandments and hast given us command concerning the counting of the Omer.
This is the forty-seventh day, making six weeks and five days of the Omer.
May the All Merciful restore the service of the Temple to its place. May it be Thy will, YHWH our Elohym and Elohym of our fathers, that the Temple be speedily rebuilt in our days, and grant our portion in Thy Torah. And there we will serve Thee with awe, as in the days of old and as in ancient years.
May Elohym be favorable unto us and bless us. That Thy way may be known upon the earth, Thy salvation among all nations. Let the peoples give thanks unto Thee, Elohym; let all the peoples give thanks unto Thee. Let the nations rejoice and exult: for Thou wilt judge the peoples with equity and lead the nations upon the earth. Let the peoples give thanks unto Thee, Elohym; let all the peoples give thanks unto Thee. The earth hath yielded her increase: Elohym, even our Elohym, shall bless us. Elohym shall bless us; and all the ends of the earth shall fear Him.
READINGS: TEHILLAH 138
I give You thanks with all my heart; Before the mighty ones I sing praises to You.
I bow myself toward Your set-apart Hěḵal, And give thanks to Your Name For Your mercy and for Your truth; For You have made great Your Word, Your Name, above all.
On the day I called You did answer me, You made me bold with strength in my being.
Let all the kings of the earth Give thanks to You, O YHWH, When they shall hear the words of Your mouth.
And let them sing of the ways of YHWH, For great is the esteem of YHWH.
Though YHWH is exalted, He looks on the humble; But the proud He perceives from a distance.
Though I walk in the midst of distress, You revive me; You stretch out Your hand Against the wrath of my enemies, And Your right hand saves me.
YHWH does perfect for me. O YHWH, Your mercy is everlasting. Do not forsake the works of Your hands.
READINGS: TEHILLAH 139
O YHWH, You have searched me And know me.
You know my sitting down and my rising up; You understand my thought from afar.
You sift my path and my lying down, And know well all my ways.
For there is not a word on my tongue, But see, O YHWH, You know it all!
You have closed me in, behind and before, And laid Your hand upon me – Knowledge too wondrous for me, It is high, I am unable to reach it.
Where would I go from Your Spirit? Or where would I flee from Your face?
If I go up into the heavens, You are there; If I make my bed in She’ol, see, You are there.
I take the wings of the morning, I dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, There, too, Your hand would lead me, And Your right hand hold me.
If I say, “Darkness shall cover me,” Then night would be light to me; Even darkness is not dark for You, But night shines as the day – As is darkness, so is light.
For You, You possessed my kidneys, You have covered me in my mother’s womb.
I give thanks to You, For I am awesomely and wondrously made! Wondrous are Your works, And my being knows it well.
My bones were not concealed from You, When I was shaped in a hidden place, Knit together in the depths of the earth.
Your eyes saw my unformed body. And in Your book all of them were written, The days they were formed, While none was among them.
And how precious are Your thoughts to me, O Ěl! How great has been the sum of them!
If I should count them, They would be more than the sand; When I wake up, I am still with You.
Oh, that You would kill· the wrong, O Eloah! Depart from me, therefore, men of bloodshed!
They speak against You wickedly. Bring Your enemies to naught!
O YHWH, do I not hate them, who hate You? And do I not loathe those who rise up against You?
With a complete hatred I hate them; They have become my enemies.
Search me, O Ěl, and know my heart; Try me, and know my thoughts; And see if an idolatrous way is in me, And lead me in the way everlasting.
READINGS: TEHILLAH 140
Rescue me, O YHWH, from men of evil; Preserve me from men of violence, Who have devised evils in their hearts; They stir up conflicts all day long.
They sharpen their tongues like a snake; The poison of cobras is under their lips. Selah.
Guard me, O YHWH, from the hands of the wrong; Guard me from a man of violence, Who has schemed to trip up my steps.
The proud have hidden a trap for me, and cords; They have spread a net by the wayside; They have set snares for me. Selah.
I said to YHWH, “You are my Ěl; Hear the voice of my prayers, O YHWH.
“O Master YHWH, my saving strength, You have screened my head in the day of battle.
“Do not grant the desires of the wrong, O YHWH; Do not promote his scheme. Selah.
“Those who surround me lift up their head; The trouble of their lips covers them; “Let burning coals fall on them; Let them be made to fall into the fire, Into deep pits, let them not rise again.
“Let not a slanderer be established in the earth; Let evil hunt the man of violence speedily.”
I have known that YHWH maintains The cause of the afflicted, The judgment of the poor.
Only, let the righteous give thanks to Your Name, Let the straight ones dwell in Your presence.
READINGS: TEHILLAH 141
YHWH, I have cried out to You; Hasten to me! Give ear to my voice when I cry out to You.
Let my prayer be prepared before You as incense, The lifting up of my hands as the evening offering.
O YHWH, set a guard for my mouth; Watch over the door of my lips.
Let not my heart be inclined to evil, To practise deeds of wrongness With men working wickedness, And let me not eat of their delicacies.
Let the righteous one smite me Or reprove me in mercy – It is oil on my head. Let my head not refuse it. My prayer is still against their evil deeds.
Their judges have been thrown down By the sides of the rock, But they have heard my words, For they have been pleasant.
Our bones are scattered at the mouth of She’ol, As when one ploughs and breaks up the earth.
But my eyes are upon You, O Master YHWH. In You I take refuge; Do not pour out my life.
Guard me from the clutches Of the trap they have laid for me, And from the snares Of the workers of wickedness.
Let the wrong fall into their own nets, While I pass by.
READINGS: MISHLE 29:1-27
One often reproved, hardening his neck, Is suddenly broken, and there is no healing.
When the righteous increase, the people rejoice; But when a wrong one rules, the people sigh.
He who loves wisdom gladdens his father, But a companion of whores destroys wealth.
A king establishes a land by judgment, But one who receives bribes throws it down.
A man who flatters his neighbor Spreads a net for his own feet.
An evil man is ensnared by transgression, But the righteous sings and rejoices.
The righteous knows the plea of the poor, The wrong does not understand such knowledge.
Scoffers ensnare a city, But the wise turn away wrath.
When a wise man disputes with a foolish man, Whether he rages or laughs, there is no peace.
Bloodthirsty men hate the perfect, And seek the life of the straight.
A fool lets out all his breath, But the wise keeping it back calms it down.
If a ruler listens to lying words, All his servants become wrong.
The poor man and the oppressor have this in common: YHWH gives light to the eyes of both.
The king who rightly rules the poor with truth, His throne is established forever.
A rod and reproof give wisdom, But a child unrestrained brings shame to his mother.
When the wrong become many, transgression increases; But the righteous look on their fall.
Discipline your son, And he brings you rest and delight to your life.
Where there is no vision, the people are let loose, But blessed is he who guards the Torah.
A servant is not disciplined by words; Though he understands, he does not respond.
Have you seen a man hasty in his words? There is more expectancy for a fool than for him.
He who deals tenderly With his servant from youth, Has him as a son in the end.
A man of displeasure stirs up strife, And a master of rage has many a transgression.
The pride of man brings him low, But the humble in spirit obtains esteem.
He who shares with a thief hates his own life; He hears an oath, but does not report.
The fear of man brings a snare, But whoever trusts in YHWH is set on high.
Many seek the face of a ruler, But judgment for man comes from YHWH.
An unrighteous man Is an abomination to the righteous, And he who is straight in the way Is an abomination to the wrong.
READINGS: AVOTH 6:7-8
Great is the Torah which gives life to those that practice it in this world and in the world to come; as it is said, for they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh; and it says, it shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones; and it says, it is a tree of life to them that grasp it, and of them that uphold it every one is rendered happy; and it says, for they shall be a chaplet of grace unto thy head, and chains about thy neck; and it says, it shall give to thine head a chaplet of grace, a crown of esteem it shall deliver to thee; and it says, for by me thy days shall be multiplied, and the years of thy life shall be increased; and it says, length of days is in its right hand, in its left hand are riches and honor; and it says, for length of days and years of life, and peace shall they add to thee.
Rabbi Shim’on ben Yehudah in the name of Rabbi Shim’on ben Yochay said, beauty, strength, riches, honor, wisdom, (old age) a hoary head, and children, are comely to the righteous and comely to the world; as it is said, the hoary head is a crown of esteem if it be found in the way of righteousness; and it says, the esteem of young men is their strength, and the adornment of old men is the hoary head; and it says, a crown unto the wise is their riches; and it says, children’s children are the crown of old men, and the adornment of children are their fathers; and it is said, then the moon shall be confounded and the sun ashamed, for YHWH of Hosts shall rule in Mount Tziyon and in Yerushalayim, and before his elders shall be esteem.
Rabbi Shim’on ben M’nasya said, these seven qualifications which the sages enumerated as becoming to the righteous were all realized in Rabbi Hanassi, and in his sons.
Samson was chosen before he was even conceived. He had no merit, no skills, or knowledge. He wasn't chosen to be the judge of Israel because he was a righteous man, but because he was the man God needed for the job. If God calls you to a task, don't argue with him and don't fear your own weakness. His strength is sufficient for you to carry out his will. He knows what he needs. You don't.
Just like Sarah and Rachel centuries earlier, Samson's mother wasn't barren because of sin, but for God's glory. God's decision-making process incorporates wisdom and knowledge that we could never comprehend.
Judges 13
And the people of Israel again did what was evil in the sight of YHVH, so YHVH gave them into the hand of the Philistines for forty years.
Judges 13:1
God can't keep you if you refuse to keep His Law. Lawlessness is a dog whistle to Philistines (aka Palestinians). They'll hear it no matter how you try to hide.
